When a restoration needs a second look
A crown fitted years ago, or a restoration or implant placed at another clinic, can develop problems with time. Being told “it needs to be redone” is hard to hear. What matters is not what gets redone, but understanding how it got there.
Why retreatment is needed
The reasons vary: decay under the restoration, a loss of the cement seal, a fracture, changes in the gum and bone, shifts in chewing force and in the bite. A restoration can look fine from the outside while a problem develops underneath.
When the same tooth is treated over and over, it is usually not the restoration itself but the underlying cause that was not resolved.
That is why the cause comes first.
